"I BAMBINI CUBANI RACCONTANO LA RIVOLUZIONE"
Prima della Rivoluzione a Cuba c’erano 1.000.000 di analfabeti, più di 1.000.000 di semianalfabeti, 10.000 insegnanti senza lavoro e 600.000 bambini privi di scuole. L’abbandono scolastico era molto alto a causa delle condizioni di miseria.
Dopo il trionfo della Rivoluzione, iniziò la campagna di alfabetizzazione che ridusse in un anno dal 23.6 % al 3.9 % l’indice di analfabetismo nel paese.
Oggi l’indice di analfabetismo è solo dell'1.9 % e Cuba ha il più alto numero di maestri, medici, istruttori artistici e di sport fra tutte le nazioni del mondo in rapporto al numero di abitanti.
A Cuba c'è 1 insegnante ogni 37 abitanti, nel resto dell'America Latina la media è di 1 insegnante ogni 270 abitanti.
Il 96.1 % degli allievi termina il corso di studi primari. E’ la percentuale più alta fra tutti i paesi d’America, Stati Uniti compresi. Nell'America Latina la percentuale media è soltanto il 44 %.
Nel 1961, il Governo cubano ha organizzato una Campagna di Alfabetizzazione ed è riuscito, in un solo anno, a sradicare la piaga dell’analfabetismo, che ancora oggi colpisce i Paesi del Terzo Mondo e anche alcune zone dei Paesi industrializzati.
Questo incredibile successo è stato riconosciuto dall’Organizzazione delle Nazioni Unite per l’Educazione, la Scienza e la Cultura (UNESCO) che ha fatto porre una targa all’ingresso del Museo della Alfabetizzazione a La Habana con queste parole:
Negli ultimi 7 anni, Cuba ha raggiunto il più alto livello d'istruzione scolastica di tutta l’America Latina. Attualmente il livello medio d’istruzione della popolazione Ë attorno al nono grado, con una istruzione elementare del 100%, un’educazione prescolastica che coinvolge l’86,9% dei bambini e delle bambine e un tasso di analfabetismo di circa 1,5%.

In Cuba there is 1 teacher for every 37 inhabitants, in the rest of Latin America the average is 1 teacher for every 270 inhabitants.
96.1% of students finish their primary studies course. It is the highest percentage among all the countries of America, including the United States. In Latin America the average percentage is only 44%.
In 1961, the Cuban government organized a Literacy Campaign and managed, in just one year, to eradicate the scourge of illiteracy, which still affects Third World countries and even some areas of industrialized countries today.
This incredible success was recognized by the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO) which had a plaque placed at the entrance of the Museum of Literacy in Havana with these words:
In the past 7 years, Cuba has reached the highest level of school education in all of Latin America. Currently the average educational level of the population is around the ninth grade, with a 100% elementary education, a pre-school education involving 86.9% of boys and girls and an illiteracy rate of about 1.5 %.
